UNWTO Barometer September 2022

A 6-page excerpt from the latest UNWTO Tourism Barometer consisting of commentary, data tables and charts.

Key insights include that international arrivals reached 57% of their 2019 equivalent during the first seven months of this year at a global level, while in Europe the picture was more positive still, with arrivals at 74% of those achieved three years before.

Although the UNWTO panel of experts remains upbeat about prospects for the remainder of the year confidence has dipped slightly since the last survey earlier in the summer, with the deteriorating economic situation being a prime concern and is said to represent a major downside risk.

The report notes that close to 90 countries around the world now have no Covid-19 related travel restrictions.

Airports in the EEA area plus Switzerland and the UK saw passenger numbers in July that were 94% up on a year ago, although a number of airports faced challenges in dealing with the sharp uptick in demand.

The Excerpt concludes with a table showing recent trends by region and subregion.
