Euromonitor Top 100 City Destinations

Inbound tourism to city destinations is estimated to have declined by at least 60% in 2020 according to the webinar which provides figures for the top 10 cities in each world region as well as discussing some of the interventions made by local or national tourist boards.

Arguably a league table of city destinations in 2020 says more about the degree to which each was impacted by the public health crisis and the extent to which governments imposed travel restrictions.  The report does note that cities with a greater reliance on business and inbound markets were harder hit than others.

The webinar briefly touches on potential trends for 2021 which includes the likely emergence of ‘travel corridors, a continued focus on domestic rather than international tourism, the growing importance of digital technology, heightened consumer awareness of sustainability issues and enhanced resilience brought about by cooperation.

These trends are not dealt with at length and mirror suggestions made elsewhere.
