An online synopsis from our partners at Euromonitor of their Top 100 City Destinations Index for 2022 report highlights a few of the key findings from the latest wave of the analysis. The full report is available to purchase from Euromonitor.
The study looks at the best performers with regard to economic and business activity, tourism performance, tourism infrastructure, digitalisation and sustainability credentials among other things.
Among the top 100 within the Euromonitor Index, 40 European cities appear, including Paris (1st), Amsterdam (3rd), Madrid (4th) and Rome (5th). Looking just at sustainability measures the top three are Melbourne, Madrid and Seville.
The summary suggests that intra-regional and domestic tourism has been a key driver of 2022 tourism activity, with easing travel restrictions facilitating this, but cost of living challenges acting as a constraint.
There are 18 cities from the Americas (New York being the best ranked at 10th) and 26 from Asia within the top 100 (Singapore being the top ranked at 15th). Fourteen destinations from Africa and the Middle East make an appearance, headed by Dubai in 2nd spot.
