Visit Britain Inbound COVID-19 Sentiment Tracker – Wave 3
- An extremely substantial 128-page report studying travel sentiment in 13 global markets, with a particular focus on travel intentions with regard to both Europe and Britain. Analysis is based on 500 interviews in each market, leading to an overall sample size of 7.500. Fieldwork took place in late August and early September 2021. The report is divided into a number of sections focussing on overall travel intentions, destination planning and travel preferences. These sections are followed with a recap of key takeaways and a series of appendices which explore results in greater depth by individual source market and destination in addition to providing greater detail on survey samples.
Headline findings include:
- Desire to travel internationally remains very high with 4-in-10 of those in short-haul markets for Britain intending a trip before the end of 2021
- Younger groups remain more likely to say they will travel internationally than older cohorts
- Considerations influencing decision making continue to be centred around health, but increasingly financial matters are a potential constraint
- OTAs and Tour Operators are still well considered across all markets and all demographics
- Transport providers are expected to offer the most flexible cancellation policies
- As is often the case ‘experiences’ were described as an important element of holiday trips, with a distinct preference for these to be food-related
- The market where potential travellers were found to be most enthused about travel to Britain was China while at the other extreme those polled in France were keener on visiting alternative destinations
