Mabrian Study: Rethinking the sustainability of long-haul travel
Our partners at travel intelligence provider Mabrian have published a new study analysing the impact of long-haul travel on the environment.
A summary of this study is available free of charge, with the option to purchase the full report. The summary takes Barcelona as an example, and examines one of the tourism sustainability indicators created by Mabrian, the Income/carbon footprint Index. This relates the aviation carbon footprint generated by passengers from various origin markets and their spend during their stay in $ per kg of CO2 emissions. It argues that in some cases, long-haul visitors have a much greater economic impact on a destination than short-haul travellers for the amount of CO2 emissions generated by their visit.
