ETOA Climate Action Workshop, February 2025

Delegate Travel Results

Delegate travel has the most significant impact on the total carbon emission of the services ETOA sells (the ‘Scope 3’ emissions described in our Climate Action Plan: we use revenue from our events to fund projects aligned with science-based emissions reductions goals).

Click the arrows in the bottom left-hand corner (or swipe) to discover how ETOA delegates travelled to ETOA’s Climate Action Workshop.

Current Findings:

To reach ETOA’s Climate Action Workshop:

  • Delegates took an average of 1.6 different modes of transport per person.
  • Two thirds of delegate journeys included a train journey (61%).
  • One third of delegates took a flight (33%).
  • One third of delegate journeys included local public transportation (33%).
  • One in ten travelled by (e)bike or (e)scooter (11%).

Travel purpose:

  • 39% of delegates travelled exclusively for ETOA’s Climate Action Workshop, while almost two-thirds of delegates combined their trip with other activities.

*18 respondents reporting 29 transport modes taken (as at 12.03.2025). ETOA uses ‘Travel Purpose’ to estimate the percentage of delegate travel emissions reasonably attributable to ETOA Scope 3 activity. Final results will be taken as representative of total delegates.
