#GEM24 Delegate Travel Results

Delegate travel has the most significant impact on the total carbon emission of the services ETOA sells (the ‘Scope 3’ emissions described in our Climate Action Plan: we use revenue from our events to fund projects aligned with science-based emissions reductions goals).

Current Findings:

To reach #GEM24*:

  • One-third of delegate journeys included public transport (31%).
  • Nearly one in four journeys included a short-haul flight (24%).
  • One in five journeys were by train (22%); one in ten took a long-distance train.

Travel purpose:

  • Two-thirds of delegates travelled exclusively for #GEM24 (66%), while one-third combined their trip with other activities.

 

*178 respondents reporting 331 transport modes, with an average of 1.86 modes taken per person (as at 17.11.2024). ETOA uses ‘Travel Purpose’ to estimate the percentage of delegate travel emissions reasonably attributable to ETOA Scope 3 activity. Final results will be taken as representative of total delegates.
