Idegenforgalmi Adó

The tourist tax (Idegenforgalmi adó) is a local tax decided by each municipality and can vary within a destination (if they have multiple districts). There are over 3,000 municipalities in Hungary and information whether a tourist tax is applicable in each municipality can be found here.

In Budapest, the tourist tax is decided by each municipality/district (1-16) except districts 17 to 23 and Margitsziget where it is decided by the General Assembly of Budapest (Fovaros Onkormanyzata). As a result, the tax varies between districts where either a percentage is levied up to 4% or a fixed amount per person per night (maximum amount 506 HUF in 2018 taking into account inflation from when the local tax law was passed in 1990).

In Budapest city centre, the tax is mainly 4% of the net cost of the room (excluding VAT and breakfast).

Below is only a single destination and other destinations may levy a tax. Further information can be found by clicking on the title of each district.

While best efforts have been made to verify the accuracy of the information on 31 May 2019, the information displayed should be used as guidance only.
