Group tourism is a core area for ETOA. Our members represent short and long haul markets, and group sizes and profiles vary, but they share one common cause: to ensure that groups receive the welcome and infrastructure they should in destinations across Europe.

ETOA works on a series of challenges that face the sector, from guiding restrictions to coach access and taxes.

Our unique position as an association means that we are able to bring together the various stakeholders involved, from operators and hoteliers to tourist boards and city administrations and work together to improve this state of affairs.

Charter for group tourism in cities

On 11 May 2010 in Brussels, Belgium, ETOA brought together stakeholders in city tourism to launch Groups mean Business - A Charter for Successful Tourism, with partners European Cities Marketing (ECM) and the International Road Transport Union (IRU). The charter lays out good practice in cities for welcoming and handling group tourism, as well as promoting the benefits of the sector and better partnerships between tour operators and destinations.

The event was attended by tour operators, tourist boards and other stakeholders such as attractions, museums and hotels, and was opened by the chairman of the European Parliament's Transport and Tourism Committee, Brian Simpson.  Specific topics addressed included the practicalities of managing group tourism in cities, promoting destinations for groups and raising the profile of group tourism.
