328 steps to one of Frankfurt’s most beautiful views –
Emperor’s Cathedral in Frankfurt is once again open to the public
Frankfurt finally welcomed back one of its
most popular sightseeing attractions yesterday. Visitors of the city will once
again be able to climb up the 328 steps of Emperor’s Cathedral, closed off to
the general public some 11 years ago due to structural damage. Having been
painstakingly reconstructed, the stairway is once again open to the top of the
tower, from where visitors have available to them an unmatched view of the
surrounding old town, including the Römer, the city’s time-honoured town hall,
St. Paul’s Church, Frankfurt’s famous skyline in the background, and the
museum embankment along the River Main.

Record numbers and a new face, what else will London’s
leading sightseeing operator bring in the coming year….
2009 has proved an exceptional year for The Original Tour.
Despite the heavy snowfalls experienced at the start of the year
(sound familiar), the continued global economic turmoil, high
fuel prices and low American visitor numbers, London’s open top
bus specialists saw the overall year’s performance end on a
phenomenal high, with business growing and exceeding all targets
in 2009 by nearly 10%. “It would appear that European and
domestic visitors to London knew a good deal when they saw one.
London genuinely proved itself to be exceptionally good value
for money, supported in part by a favourable exchange rate
throughout 2009”.
“The Original Tour is also particular proud of the improvements
that were made to our product during the year, having launched
the Explore London Walking Pass, the most eco-friendly way of
seeing the city and extended our popular Kids Club commentary
onto the Museum Tour route, we have recognised the changing
demands of our particular market sector” said Colin Atkins,
managing director. “That said, we certainly would not have
finished the year on such a high without the continued support
of friends in the trade and the extraordinary efforts of our own
staff. Ultimately, the key success in launching any new product
development lies in its overall delivery. Our people take great
pride in delivering consistent and exceptional levels of
customer service” commented Colin Atkins.

A campaign has been launched to promote travel by bus and
coach worldwide. Smart Move (www.busandcoach.travel)
is an initiative of the International Road Transport Union, a
partner of ETOA, and Busworld, and aims to double the use of
buses and coaches, as a means towards meeting targets to reduce
carbon emissions associated with travel and transport, and
improve safety. The European inauguration of the Smart Move
campaign took place in Brussels, on the occasion of the first
annual European Bus and Coach Day (More at
www.iru.org). "Bus and coach
transport's flexibility makes it a highly efficient, yet safer
and greener alternative to complement or even replace private
cars, with obvious advantages for society as a whole," said IRU
Secretary General, Martin Marmy. "Doubling the use of bus and
coach transport over the next 10-15 years is not only a
realistic and cost-efficient policy; it is also a commendable
approach from a public interest point of view." In Europe
alone, such an increase would result in a reduction in CO2
emissions by at least 50 million tonnes per year; a reduction in
road fatalities by over 3000 per year; a spectacular fall of
congestion in cities at zero cost for taxpayers subsequent to an
expected 10-15% reduction in car traffic, and the creation of 4
million new jobs. |
